THE SHOPFEST TAKE
Start with what matters to you.
Start with CeraVe for an everyday fragrance free option, or Neutrogena for the lowest recorded tube price. Compare Cicaplast if you want a different fragrance free formula. Choose Byredo for the woody Vetyver scent, and L’Occitane for a larger scented tube. Spending more does not establish better winter skin care.

A fragrance free cream is the practical starting point
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends applying moisturizer after hand washing while skin is still damp, and choosing fragrance free products for dry skin. That makes a straightforward cream easier to justify than a luxury scent when winter dryness is the main concern.
Start with one tube you tolerate and will actually reach for. Keep it near the place you wash your hands most often. A low price can be a useful advantage if it lets you reapply without rationing the product. Persistent, painful or worsening cracking deserves advice from a dermatologist rather than another fragranced purchase.
Byredo is the scent purchase, not our default dry hands pick
Cos Bar lists Vetyver Hand Cream at $75. BYREDO identifies this version as 100 ml and states 20% shea butter. Its woody scent combines citrus, aromatic and earthy notes. Choose it because you enjoy that fragrance, not because its price proves it will handle winter dryness better.
Cos Bar advises against applying it to irritated or damaged skin. For sore or reactive winter hands, begin with a fragrance free option. Confirm size, ingredients and final price at checkout; retailer prices can differ.
CeraVe: the everyday starting point
CeraVe identifies three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid in this hand cream, and describes the formula as fragrance free. Target listed the selected 3 oz tube at $10.99. For someone choosing a straightforward cream for everyday use, that is a sensible place to start. It is our editorial starting point among these five, not a laboratory winner.
The important test at home is whether you tolerate the formula and use it consistently. Start with an amount that suits the label and your needs, then judge the finish before reaching for a keyboard or putting gloves on. We have not timed its absorption or tested its protection through hand washing. Those results should not be inferred from a product description alone.
Neutrogena: the budget tube to keep within reach
The official ingredient list begins with water and glycerin. We selected the fragrance free Norwegian Formula in the 2 oz tube, listed at $5.49 at Target. It has the lowest recorded tube price in this comparison. That makes it worth considering for the desk, handbag or bathroom where you are most likely to remember to use it.
Neutrogena describes this as concentrated and says only a small amount is needed. Start there rather than assuming a larger dose will feel better. We have not measured how long a tube lasts or repeated the brand’s application count as a Shopfest result. Check the exact fragrance free label when buying, because a similar looking version is not automatically the same formula.
Cicaplast: check the exact hand cream
Cicaplast is a product family, so the first buying check is the name. This selection is the 50 ml hand cream, not Cicaplast Baume B5 or a face cream. Dermstore listed a one time purchase at $12.99 and showed it in stock. The listed formula includes glycerin, niacinamide, shea butter and dimethicone, and is identified as fragrance free.
This is a useful alternative to compare with CeraVe if ingredient preferences or the way a product fits your routine guide your choice. A higher price for a smaller tube is the main value tradeoff. We have not verified the brand’s long wear claims or tested the finish through repeated washing. The Ulta product photograph shows the same named 50 ml hand cream; packaging can change, so confirm the label and ingredients on the purchased item.
L’Occitane: a larger tube, with fragrance still in the formula
The selected version is the classic 150 ml Shea Butter Hand Cream, listed at $34. L’Occitane states 20% shea butter and includes fragrance in the published ingredient list. That combination makes it a different choice from a plain fragrance free cream, even though the packaging and name put the emphasis on shea.
The larger tube makes most sense in a place where you want to leave it, such as a bedside table or desk. Choose a smaller version separately if portability matters, and compare its own price rather than using the large tube’s value as a proxy. We have not tested its finish or adopted the brand’s hydration duration as our own finding. For easily irritated hands, start with one of the fragrance free choices in this edit.
Build a routine before buying a collection
You do not need all five. Choose a fragrance free cream as your everyday starting point if dryness or sensitivity is the issue. A scented tube is an optional pleasure for someone who already enjoys and tolerates that fragrance.
Follow the label, reapply after washing, and use gloves appropriate to cold weather and wet work. Do not assume that a brand claim about hours of hydration means you can skip reapplication. None of these hand creams is presented here as sunscreen or as treatment for a diagnosed skin condition. If a product stings or irritates, stop and reassess instead of trying to finish the tube.
How we researched this comparison
US desk research checked October 25, 2026. We compared exact listings, selected sizes, published ingredients, fragrance status and one time purchase prices. We have not applied these products, timed absorption, tested durability or established a clinical winner. Retailer product photographs show the actual named products; image reuse permissions were not independently available.
These are considered winter care selections, not a viral or sales ranking. The Vetyver button uses the supplied ShopMy link and was verified to redirect to Cos Bar. Other links use Shopfest’s existing ShopMy routing. Individual commission eligibility, attribution and image reuse permissions remain unconfirmed.
