What to look for

Start with the reference number, not the generic name. Chanel uses “Small Shopping Bag” for several different silhouettes. Match the material, color, dimensions and seller’s photographs before comparing prices.

How we chose these pieces

HOW WE COMPARED

A researched product and styling review based on individual retailer pages, Chanel’s product specifications and original photographs. Shopfest has not handled or worn the bag. The green and fuchsia AS6243 versions are distinguished from the sold-out black resale example, whose manufacturer reference is not displayed. Prices were checked October 26, 2026; stock, taxes and seller terms can change.

Who What Wear named this style its “#1 Chanel bag” in an August 3, 2026 editorial feature. We treat that as an editor’s pick; no independent sales ranking is supplied.

Our editorial standard →
Why this particular Chanel bag caught our eye

The appeal is its clean, horizontal outline. A pair of tall handles and a small CC detail provide a recognizable Chanel cue without the densely quilted surface associated with many familiar house bags. The green crocodile-embossed finish adds pattern while leaving the overall shape easy to read. Our editorial preference is to let the bag supply the color and keep the clothes around it simple.

Who What Wear’s August feature singled out the Small Shopping Bag, with coverage of Elsa Hosk and Matilda Djerf carrying the style. That coverage explains the excitement around the design and provides the starting point for this closer look.

Get the reference right before comparing

The green bag in this edit belongs to the AS6243 design family. Its verified shopping destination is the Saks Fifth Avenue listing for the Small Shopping Bag in Green, made from crocodile-embossed calfskin with gold-tone metal. “Crocodile-embossed” describes a texture applied to calfskin; it is not a claim that the bag is made from crocodile skin.

Chanel’s current Fuchsia listing carries reference AS6243-B24144-UC898. This is a different color in the same design family, not a new name for the green SKU. Do not substitute the Maxi Flap, Chanel 25, or another shopping bag with a similar title when you are trying to find this silhouette. A label alone is not enough to establish an exact match.

Green or fuchsia: choose the role, then the color

The Small Shopping Bag — Green Crocodile-Embossed Calfskin is the closer starting point if your attraction came from the mint or turquoise-looking bag in the original feature. Saks calls the selected color Green. Screen color and lighting can change how a photograph reads, so compare it in person if you are matching an outfit.

The Small Shopping Bag — Fuchsia Crocodile-Embossed Calfskin creates a stronger contrast against grey, navy, white or a quiet dark coat. Chanel labels it Fuchsia, rather than burgundy. The gallery places the two finishes separately so that you can inspect the texture, opening and hardware without confusing them. Each version is listed at $7,300.00 in its respective US source. Confirm availability directly with the store or boutique.

What to check in person

Chanel records the current fuchsia AS6243 at 7.9 × 15.4 × 5.1 inches. Its width is worth noticing: “small” is the product name, not a promise of a tiny evening-bag footprint. Try it beside your body and with the coat you actually wear. Check the handle clearance, where the base rests and whether the opening suits the items you carry.

The detail photographs reveal the lining, chain detail and opening more clearly than a distant outfit shot. Use them to decide which questions to ask, rather than assuming every pocket or closure functions the way you expect. Bring your phone, wallet and glasses case to a boutique appointment if practical. We have not tested whether a particular laptop fits, measured loaded weight or assessed long-term wear.

How we would style it

For an everyday look, start with straight jeans, a fine cream knit and a dark loafer or flat you already own. The green bag becomes a single clear accent rather than another pattern competing for attention. For tailoring, grey trousers and an uncomplicated jacket give the horizontal bag a clean setting. Keep the scale of the outfit in mind: a wide trouser or long coat may balance the elongated shape differently from a short, fitted dress.

Fuchsia works as an intentional focal point. Repeat it only if you want a stronger color statement; matching shoes are optional. These are Shopfest styling suggestions, not identifications of any celebrity’s exact outfit or a claim that a photographed person endorses Shopfest.

Buying it: store inquiry and resale are different decisions

Saks states that the green bag is available only through select stores and warns that it may no longer be available in store. Treat the product page as a starting point for a style-advisor inquiry. Chanel directs shoppers to boutique appointments for the fuchsia version. Neither source establishes that a bag is waiting for immediate online checkout. Confirm the current price, selected reference, delivery or collection arrangements, and return terms before paying.

The black FASHIONPHILE photographs are an archival resale example, clearly marked sold out. Its retailer title is Calfskin Archetype Small Shopping Tote; the page does not expose a Chanel manufacturer reference, so we do not call it the exact AS6243 green item. Its measurements and signs of wear belong to that individual bag. Use those photographs to understand what condition images can show, not as a live offer or an authentication guide. A resemblance to a current design is not proof of identical age, size, material or condition.

THE SHOPFEST DECISION

What we would choose—and why.

Choose the green version if the original mint-toned croc-effect photograph is what drew you in. Choose fuchsia when you want the same design family to make a brighter statement. At this price, our recommendation depends on enjoying the actual shape and carry experience in person. Confirm the exact reference and current availability before committing.
