THE SHOPFEST SHORTLIST · KIDS
Christmas Gifts for the Kid Who Wants to Make Something: 10 Creative Ideas
For the child who would rather make the present than admire the box, start with the activity. A flower press, fashion-design kit, tracing pad, scratch paper and paint sticks create different kinds of Christmas afternoons. This shortlist compares the setup, supplies and kind of play; check the exact age guidance before gifting.

The decision
Choose an open-ended supply for a child who invents projects. Choose a more directed kit when a clear starting activity will help.
- What does the exact package include, and what must be added?
- Does the age guidance match the child and any younger siblings?
- Will the activity need adult setup, drying time or a protected surface?

Supplies versus a finished project
OOLY Pastel Liners, Chunkies Paint Sticks and a sketchbook can become a replenishable drawing station. Lakeshore’s Fashion Designer and Butterfly Craft Pillow offer a more defined project. Compare the child’s preferred pace: a kit can be satisfying to finish, while basic supplies invite another idea tomorrow.
Match the setup to the household
Elseware Unplug’s Flower Press introduces a slower collecting activity. Crayola’s Light-Up Tracing Pad offers a drawing reference, while the Mudpuppy 100-piece puzzle changes the task entirely. Check age warnings, required power or extra supplies on the retailer page. The selection does not imply every item has been tested with children.
How this shortlist was made
An editorial comparison of existing Shopfest catalog references, selected for distinct shapes, uses and buying decisions. Product photos and retailer details retain their original catalog source dates. Prices are dated references; follow the retailer link for current price, options and availability. No new wear test or hands-on test was performed.
This is an editorial shortlist, not a search-volume ranking or a claim that every product is viral. A tracked shopping destination does not establish commission eligibility. Gift suggestions are not claims of purchase or use. Black Friday planning picks are not confirmed current discounts unless a separately dated offer is explicitly shown.
Products are existing Shopfest catalog records, with their original identity evidence and check dates. This page is a new editorial comparison, not a claim of a new hands-on test. Numbering is for navigation, not a popularity rank.
